From Mississippi to Madison Avenue
and straight on till Oregon.
Soon as I got my B.A. in English Lit., Daddy started passing around my resume like fried chicken at a church supper. My first interview landed me a job as a copywriter trainee at $500 a month.
Then I Southern drawled my way to New York City. Learned to talk fast 'cause Easterners can’t listen slow. Wrote ads about "Kodel, the fiber that puts the yes in polyester" by day. Studied advertising at night at the School of Visual Arts. Upgraded to Ogilvy & Mather. Ate too many Pepperidge Farm goldfish. Worked hard, played hard, slept fast.
Ten years later, I was an Associate Creative Director at one of Mad. Ave.’s biggest agencies. And a new mom. So I did what any sane woman would – escaped to Bend, Oregon and started freelancing. These days, my home base is in Portland. Have PowerBook. Love to travel. |
